What to take away
Compare what each tool can establish, what happens after a finding, and who does the work. Elba brings connected-source and browser evidence into a source-aware workflow. Nudge combines email discovery with browser and API capabilities. Wing Security now presents itself as With Wings, focused on AI-agent exposure. These are vendor-stated approaches, not results from a head-to-head product test.
1. Decide what discovery must cover
An application count does not tell you whether a tool found a sign-up, an active account, a permission grant or a browser visit. Start with the evidence your team needs, then compare how each shortlisted product supplies it.
Review these four signals separately. Ask how personal accounts and activity without a sign-up email are handled, and which devices or connections remain outside the deployment.
- Email: account creation, sign-in and other application activity signals.
- OAuth and connected sources: accounts, assignments and permissions reported by the source.
- Browser: observed app use and available account context, including activity outside connected apps.
- Data: the specific prompts, uploads or sharing situations the configured control can inspect.
2. Compare the method and its prerequisites
The primary vendor pages linked below were reviewed on 23 October 2026. The table summarizes their public descriptions. A capability not described on a reviewed page is not treated as unavailable; ask for its current specification and test it in your pilot.
| Question | Elba | Nudge Security | With Wings (formerly Wing Security) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Discovery evidence | Connected applications, OAuth, email and browser observations, with source provenance. | Email metadata from Google Workspace or Microsoft 365, complemented by browser and API signals. | AI agents, identities, connections and the reach of inherited permissions. |
| Browser and AI data | Supported AI signals on Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari 26+ on macOS 26+; validate the workflow. | Browser-extension monitoring of AI uploads, copy/paste and related activity. | The reviewed homepage describes agent authority, not a browser/file-inspection specification. |
| Public emphasis | SaaS and AI visibility, supported data controls and follow-through. | AI/SaaS governance, posture, third-party risk and spend. | Agent exposure and permission reduction. |
| What to deploy | Connect the relevant sources and enroll the browsers needed for browser coverage. | Read-only email connection for initial discovery; additional browser/API capabilities need their own deployment. | Confirm the connections and permissions required for your agent estate with the vendor. |

3. Follow a finding through to its outcome
A finding is useful when someone can make the right decision and carry it through. Ask each vendor to demonstrate the response, the actor, the failure path and the evidence left afterward.
- Elba: configured Playbooks can distribute an issue, notify admins, assign complementary training, remediate a source-supported issue or block a supported browser action. Available actions depend on the trigger and connection. An access-review decision or revocation request is not verified removal.
- Nudge: its OAuth page describes grant review and revocation workflows; its AI page also describes in-browser policy enforcement. Employee justification and supported automated action should be evaluated separately.
- With Wings: its stated model maps agent reach and reduces authority, with recovery support. Its Control Agent describes permission and policy-drift checks. Validate the action and recovery path for your connections.

4. Test AI data coverage explicitly
Use synthetic data to compare the same action, account and browser in each product. Test a harmless prompt, a sensitive example, a supported text upload and a format outside the inspection scope. Record whether each case is observed, warned about, blocked or not inspected. A successful upload without an alert does not prove its contents were inspected.
Elba can monitor or block supported sensitive prompts and uploads according to its configured Playbook. Supported text files provide a bounded excerpt; PDFs, Office files, most images and archives provide metadata only. Incomplete inspection does not itself block an upload. Coverage depends on the app, browser, enrollment, format and policy.
Nudge also documents sensitive upload and copy/paste monitoring through its browser extension. Compare the actual covered tools and actions instead of assuming that email discovery is its only signal.
Ask each vendor what is processed, sent to a classification service and retained. Elba’s relevant prompt or bounded excerpt can pass through its classification service; a stored finding is not a guarantee about every processing step or provider’s retention. Review the current documentation for the deployment you intend to use.

5. Keep SaaS sharing and access evidence distinct
An AI-use inventory and a SaaS-sharing review answer different questions. If oversharing is in your pilot, include a test document shared beyond its intended audience and check the response in that source application.
Elba Data Protection supports Google Workspace, Microsoft Teams, Slack, SharePoint, OneDrive, Dropbox and Confluence, with different detection and remediation capabilities by source and object. A supported Google Drive sharing-removal result and an access-review revoke decision remain different kinds of evidence. Check the actual outcome before reporting an exposure closed.

6. Match the approach to your team
Choose the pilot that answers your team’s main question. The following are evaluation starting points based on the reviewed descriptions, not measured rankings or a claim that another vendor lacks a capability.
- Start with Nudge if email-led inventory, vendor review or SaaS-spend visibility is your first question; include its browser/API coverage where relevant.
- Start with With Wings if agent reach and excessive inherited authority are the main concern; prove the required connections and response in your estate.
- Start with Elba if lean IT needs application evidence, supported AI/data controls and source-aware follow-through in one workflow. Demonstrate each required connection rather than relying on a catalogue count.

How Elba supports the evaluation
Elba keeps connector-confirmed accounts and grants distinct from email-supported use and browser observations. Its application inventory can support approval decisions and investigation without turning an observed visit into a verified account.
Use the source capabilities shown in your workspace to select supported responses. Access reviews can delegate decisions and export evidence for supported connected applications or reviewed authoritative imports. A discovery catalogue is not the number of connected applications, and a completed review does not establish that every requested change was verified.

Common questions
What is the difference between Shadow IT and Shadow AI?
Shadow IT is technology used outside the organization’s approval process. Shadow AI is the AI subset, including chatbots, assistants and agents. Review the work purpose, account, data and connected permissions before deciding what is acceptable.
Can email-based discovery find every application?
No single signal establishes everything. Email can reveal sign-ups and activity; connected sources can confirm accounts and grants; browsers can add observed use. Evaluate each vendor’s combined deployment and keep the evidence types distinct.
Does Elba automatically revoke every risky application?
No. Configured Playbooks support only available source actions or browser blocks. Review decisions and revocation requests do not prove removal; check the specific connection’s result.
Can a small IT team evaluate these tools?
Yes. Limit the pilot to a representative authorized group and a few synthetic scenarios. Count the decisions and follow-up work that remain with IT, and check outcomes in the source. Do not choose from application counts or a promise of universal coverage alone.
